” Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you.” 2 Chronicles 20:15,17 (NIV)
A battle, by definition, is a lengthy and usually difficult struggle to succeed or survive and we all know that life is full of them. There are times when it seems that as we come out of one battle and begin to breathe that sigh of relief, another one is waiting just around the corner. Jesus tells us in the New Testament that “in this world, you will have trouble”, (John 16:33), we can’t avoid it. The battles we face can be emotional, financial, physical or spiritual but the common thread is they are all hard. We get weighed down and beaten up by the struggle. We feel surrounded on all sides by the enemy. In the heat of the battle, when the fire is at it’s hottest and the sea is raging all around us, it is easy to think that defeat is inevitable. But as children of the Almighty God, that is not the case. Jesus continues in that verse to say, “But take heart, for I have overcome the world.” The LORD does not expect or want us to try to fight the battle on our own. Apart from Him, we are weak and powerless, but our Heavenly Father says, “This battle that you’re in, it’s not yours….it’s mine.”
God goes on to say that we don’t even have to fight. We have the LORD of Heaven’s Armies on our side, He is fighting for us. He is fighting battles that we don’t even know exist. He is always on our side and He always wins. All He requires is that we stand still and watch for His deliverance. Plant your feet on the foundation that will not crumble or crack. Put your hope in Jesus, have faith in the One who will NEVER fail. His deliverance may not look like what we have pictured in our minds and it most likely will not come as quickly as we desire but our God will never be defeated. His deliverance will always be perfect, it will always bring glory to His Great Name. His salvation will always be victorious. When the battle feels endless and things look impossible, remember that nothing is impossible for our God. If you’re story is not good, then God is not done.
Today, as the battle continues to rage on, look up and be reminded that it is not your strength or your power that is at work here… it is the LORD’s. There is not a place you will go, that He hasn’t already been. There is not a battle you will engage in that He has not already won. Watch for His deliverance and prepare yourself for the crown of victory that He has chosen and perfectly fitted just for you. Be ready to claim the victory of the LORD.
“Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God.” Psalm 146:5
